Comme des sœurs
Comme des sœurs portrays three young women suspended in a quiet moment of shared understanding, a tenderness that needs no explanation.
While Comme des frères explores the barriers men face in expressing emotion, Comme des sœurs reflects the opposite: the openness, empathy, and mutual recognition often seen among women. Their expressions are not performative. They’re contemplative, grounded in compassion and self-awareness.
As a contemporary expressionist painter, I wanted to capture not just the beauty of feminine strength, but its emotional intelligence. Women often navigate layers of experience that only another woman can truly comprehend, from the physical and emotional changes of growing up to the cultural expectations placed upon them.
In many societies, a woman’s worth is too often diminished. Through this piece, I wanted to emphasize respect, dignity, and emotional freedom, to honor women’s right to be seen in their complexity and independence.
The psychology of color in art plays a crucial role here. I used soft, luminous tones to evoke compassion, balanced by deeper hues that suggest resilience. The result is a kind of visual duality, gentle but unyielding.
Within the Palm Springs and Los Angeles art scenes and beyond, Comme des sœurs represents the emotional sanctuary women create for each other. It’s a reminder that sisterhood, chosen or born, remains one of the most vital forms of human connection.
Like the rest of the Comme des... series, it celebrates the families we build, the people who see us fully and walk beside us through every transformation.
